From dawn till dark they worked\u00a0intensively moving from one Olympic venue to another providing linguistic support at numerous\u00a0press conferences, briefings, team captains\u2019 meetings, IOC consultations. 18 School trainers and\u00a0graduates (20.5 % of the total number of interpreters assigned to the Sochi Olympics), together\u00a0with their colleagues from other regions of Russia interpreted simultaneously from English,\u00a0French, German, Chinese. This is the roll call: trainers Sergei Yakovlev, Alexei Pago, Boris\u00a0Pogodin, Ekaterina Shutova, Oxana Yakimenko, Ekaterina Trefiliova, Irina Alexeeva, Genady\u00a0Skvortsov, and graduates Karina Laktionova, Olga Krylova, Elizaveta Myshenkova, Anna\u00a0Balashova, Grigory Khaustov, Olga Titova, Olga Novikova, Elena Zheltova, Olga Fomicheva.\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Slalom, ski-cross, half pipe, ice hockey, ski race, biathlon, figure skating, bobsleigh, skeleton \u2013\u00a0all these sports have their specific terminology, and the interpreters had to master it all. Some of\u00a0the interpreters came as real experts: Ekaterina Shutova, a long-time fan of figure skating. Privy\u00a0to all technicalities of this sport she was able to crack most challenging technical statements of\u00a0trainers and sportsmen. \u00a0The School students were assigned to specific sport events as volunteer interpreters. They were\u00a0also up to the challenge as one of them, Vadim Ermolenko, was offered a contract by the Vice\u00a0President of Curling Federation to interpret for the Paralympic Games. One trainer, Boris\u00a0Pogodin, even managed to find time slots to give training sessions and warm-ups to the students\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>in venue press centers.\u00a0Overall, the Olympic organizing committee expressed satisfaction at the interpreters\u2019 work.<\/div>\n<div>Now that we have received valuable experience and an energy boost we can get back to routine\u00a0studies!<\/div>\n<p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sochi Olympics \u2013 the world\u2019s largest sport festival &#8211; are over, and so are the days of hard\u00a0work for the interpreters \u2013 the School\u2019s trainers and students.
