On December 24, 2008 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey V. Lavrov, received the Rector of Herzen University, Gennady A. Bordovsky. During the meeting, they touched on a number of issues related to the development of co-operation between the MFA of Russia and Herzen University. Special priority was given to discussion of the aims and prospects of St Petersburg School of Interpretation and Translation, recently established at Herzen University. Sergey Lavrov supported the idea that the School should be a centre for training Russian language professionals for international organizations.

24 декабря 2008 года Министр иностранных дел Российской Федерации С.В. Лавров принял Ректора РГПУ им. А.И. Герцена Г.А. Бордовского. В ходе беседы был затронут ряд вопросов, связанных с развитием сотрудничества между МИД России и Университетом. Основное внимание было уделено работе недавно созданной при РГПУ Санкт-Петербургской высшей школы перевода, обсуждению ее задач и перспектив. С.В. Лавров высказался в поддержку функционирования Школы как одного из центров подготовки российских переводчиков для работы в международных организациях.
