30 September marked the Feast of St Jerome, or as is known in linguistic circles, International Translation Day. As in years past, the school celebrated the event in some style, with this year’s intake of students putting on a particularly entertaining and inventive programme which everyone ended up participating in. The contingent of students from the Kazakh programme organised a fun and educational quiz on the culture of their country, and the traditional presentation of work translated by SCIT teachers and alumni over the previous year was also held. This time round, the honour fell on Oxana Yakimenko, who presented Christopher Pearson’s book 1000 Monuments of Genius, translated into Russian by Yakimenko in cooperation with SCIT graduate Marina Denisyeva.

While not all graduates were able to attend the event, the school was able to welcome Elena Polyntseva – an outstanding graduate from the programme’s inaugural year, who recounted her experience working at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UN for this year’s contingent of students.
