On Saturday, May 28, Professor Liang held a mock conference in simultaneous interpretation for the students of the Chinese language on a subject matter that does not easily lend itself to interpretation: treasures of the Hermitage. Yet, the students fared pretty well in rendering from and into Chinese. Masterpieces of visual and applied art discussed in the reports were laid out on the interactive board in the classroom. The quality of the interpretation was assessed by our honorable guest from the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China – Consul for Trade and Economic Affairs, Mr Zhang Hai Tao, who is also an experienced interpreter himself. Mr Zhang Hai Tao appreciated the quality of the simultaneous interpretation of all students and praised the efforts in training interpreters with the Chinese language, specially noting the innovative methodology developed by Professor Liang.
